## Purpose

Combine several sitemap files into one sitemap index, so search engines can find them all from a single address.

## How to use this tool

1. Paste the full URL of each sitemap file, one per line, with an optional date after it.
2. Choose Generate index.
3. Download sitemap_index.xml and submit it in Search Console.

## Limits and what to check

It runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Each sitemap is limited to 2 MB and 50,000 entries, and larger input is refused rather than cut short. The child sitemaps are not fetched or checked. Make sure each address is public and on the same site as the index file.

### Do you check the child sitemaps?

No. The index is built from the addresses you paste and those files are not fetched. Check each one with the sitemap checker or validator.

### Is the sitemap index built on my device?

Yes. It is created in your browser and nothing is sent to AI Smarty. Inputs are limited to 2 MB.

### When do I need a sitemap index?

When your URLs are split across several sitemap files, for example by section or because one file would be too large. The index lists them all.

### Can child sitemaps be on another domain?

Keep child sitemaps on the same site as the index unless you have verified both sites in Search Console. Check each child address before you publish the index.
