## Purpose

Check a live sitemap by its address. We fetch that one file, then check the XML, root element, namespace, URLs, dates and duplicates, and summarise what it lists.

## How to use this tool

1. Enter the full address of one public sitemap, such as https://www.example.com/sitemap.xml.
2. Complete the human verification and choose Check sitemap.
3. Review the issues and summary, then download the report.

## Limits and what to check

One public address is fetched on our servers, with a 2 MB limit, a short timeout and up to 3 redirects. The URLs inside are never visited and child sitemaps are not followed. A clean result means no errors were found by these protocol checks. It is not a full schema check and does not mean its pages are indexed.

## Frequently asked questions

### What do you fetch?

Only the one sitemap address you enter, through our server, with a 2 MB limit, a short timeout and up to 3 redirects. The URLs listed inside it are not visited and child sitemaps are not followed.

### Which addresses are supported?

Public http or https addresses that return uncompressed XML. Private networks, sign-in pages and compressed .gz files are not supported. Paste the XML into the sitemap validator instead.

### Is the result stored?

No. The report is returned to your browser and not saved. Checking is free, needs no signup and has a daily limit with human verification.

### Does a clean sitemap check mean my pages will be indexed?

No. It means no protocol errors were found in that file. Search engines decide what to crawl, index and rank.
