# PDF to Markdown converter

## Purpose

Extract the text of a PDF as Markdown. The PDF must contain real text, as scanned pages are not read with OCR, and the limits are 50 pages and 250,000 extracted characters.

## How to use this tool

1. Choose a text-based PDF of up to 2 MB and 50 pages.
2. Complete the verification and choose Convert to Markdown.
3. Review the Markdown, then copy or download it.

## Limits and what to check

The file is uploaded for conversion (2 MB maximum), scanned for viruses and not stored once the conversion finishes. The output is paragraphs and page breaks only. Headings and tables are not reconstructed, so expect to tidy the result by hand.

### Will my PDF layout be kept?

No. PDF text becomes paragraphs and simple lists. Headings, columns and tables are not reconstructed, and scanned PDFs are not supported.

### Is my PDF stored after conversion?

No. It is scanned for viruses, converted on our server and not stored. The Markdown is returned to your browser only.

### What are the PDF limits?
