# Google Docs to Markdown converter

Convert a public Google Doc to Markdown from its sharing link.

## Purpose

Convert a Google Doc into Markdown from its link. The document must be shared as "Anyone with the link", because we fetch its public HTML export and cannot sign in on your behalf.

## How to use this tool

1. In Google Docs, share the document as Anyone with the link, or publish it to the web.
2. Paste the link, complete the verification and choose Convert to Markdown.
3. Review the Markdown, then copy or download it.

## Limits and what to check

One public page is fetched on our servers, with a 2 MB response limit and up to 3 redirects. Private documents are not supported. Check headings, lists and tables against the original, as formatting can be approximated.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I convert a private Google Doc?

No. The document must be shared as Anyone with the link or published to the web. For a private document, use File, then Download, then Markdown in Google Docs.

### Which Google Docs links work?

Editor, sharing and published links to a Google Docs document. Sheets, Slides and Drive folders are not supported.

### Is my Google Doc saved by the converter?

No. The public export is fetched once, converted and returned to your browser. Nothing is stored and your document is not changed.

### Why do headings or tables look different?

Google Docs exports its own HTML, so some formatting is approximated. Compare headings, lists and tables with the original.
